Shared Resources

ree

There are two resources I wish to draw your attention to this quarter:

First, one of the books that CGPI participants read, and which they have reported great enthusiasm for is Karoline Lewis’s A Lay Preachers’ Guide: How to Craft a Faithful Sermon. This book is part of the Working Preacher Book Series published by Fortress Press and Luther Seminary’s Working Preacher. Many of the other books in this series would be of great benefit for not only or CGPI preachers but other preachers, including Teaching Elders, Certified Ruling Elders, and lay preachers. Many are written by preaching professors, but there are also volumes written by Biblical scholars (such Walter Bruggemann and Brent Strawn) and volumes focused on preaching sermons on justice issues, sermons people need to hear but don’t want to and more. You can see the full list on the Fortress website.

Second, we purchase a subscription for all CGPI participants to The Pastor’s Workshop website. The Pastor’s Workshop is an ever-growing digital repository of commentary, liturgical resources, and other aides available to preachers. The Pastor’s Workshop founder, Stu Strachan – who is an ordained PC(USA) minister and graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary --, we will be hosting a webinar (both live and recorded for later viewing) to show us how to make the most of the Pastor’s Workshop website, including how to find exegetical resources on particular passages, how to pair the site’s liturgical resources with your sermon text or theme, and to give participants who have been using the site time to ask questions. Anyone who is interested in The Pastor’s Workshop is welcome to attend the webinar to see if they would like to purchase their own subscription; they offer a free trial here.
