What’s happening with CGPI

Just a few weeks ago, we held a CGPI Pop-up event or Mini-Conference on Saturday, October 17 in Mackinac Presbytery at FPC Marquette, MI. The Rev. Natalie Handley and her staff welcomed several prospective participants along with a handful of current participants, alumni, and synod staff (pictured above). We worshipped together and were blessed by a fantastic sermon from CGPI alumnus Bill Flemming, We had in workshops: one on planning a worship service, led by CGPI mentor Jeri Baker, and another on the basics of Reformed Theology by CGPI director, Matt Bruce. And everyone participated in a model cohort meeting, led by CGPI mentor Ryan Donahoe, in which we discussed pulpit supply preaching, using various Bible translations, and ministry in general in smaller, rural churches. At least half of the prospective participants plan to apply to the CGPI program in 2027. Plans are in motion to hold similar such event elsewhere in the Synod early in the new year.
And, by the time you read this, the Synod Assembly meeting will have occurred. We look forward to welcoming CGPI participants TJ Craven (Lake Huron) and Liz Ngare (Detroit) who will share testimonials with the Assembly delegates about their time in the CGPI program.
Finally, we are busy working on recruiting participants for the 2027-2028 program year and planning the 4th annual Alma Preaching Conference. Next year’s conference is scheduled for June 10-14. If you know of anyone who is discerning a call to ministry, preaching in particular, please let them know about the CGPI program and send their contact information our way!
Grace and peace,
