What’s Happening with CGPI?

We are impatiently waiting for the 3rd Annual Alma Preaching conference to begin! From June 4th to June 8th, we will welcome 14 new emerging preachers into the CGPI family, along with 24 returning participants, and 6 alumni. In addition, we are welcoming four new mentors to the program and several new speakers.

This year, our keynote speaker is Catherine Williams, who serves as the Associate Professor of Preaching and Worship, and the Director of Chapel Worship at the Lancaster, PA campus of Moravian University’s School of Theology (formerly known as Lancaster Theological Seminary). Rev. Dr. Williams will be speaking to us about the intersection of preaching and worship with attention to different and global worship and preaching styles.

Conference participants will attend various workshops on topics such as the Basics of Public Speaking, An Overview of the Bible, An Introduction to Reformed Theology, The Book of Confessions, and more. This year we added a workshop on preaching the parables, led by the Rev. Dr. Lucinda Isaacs (from the Presbytery of Cincinnati), and workshop on preaching for social justice, led by the Rev. Gregory Bryant (from the Presbytery of Detroit).

We also added an alumni track. Our alumni will attend the keynote lectures, and some of the workshops, but their main activity will be a master preaching workshop where they will preach to one another and receive feedback from their peers and CGPI staff.

You can read more about the Rev. Dr. Williams, our mentors, and other programming in past newsletter articles.

Finally, we have already received several inquiries about enrolling in the program next year (2027-2028). The fourth installment of the CGPI program will begin at the Alma Conference next year, tentatively scheduled over either the first or second weekend of June (from a Thursday evening to Monday morning). If you are interested in becoming a CGPI participant or have any questions about the program please contact Dr. Matt Aragon Bruce, the CGPI program director, or any Synod staff member.
