What’s Happening with CGPI?

We are busy planning the 2026 Alma Preaching Conference and moreover recruiting a new class of CGPI participants.

The Alma Preaching Conference is scheduled for June 4-8, 2026 where we will welcome a new, third class of emerging preachers and welcome back our second class.  Apply here:  Apply for CGPI | Synod Of The Covenan

Our second year group will participate in two new or revamped workshops, a workshop on preaching for social justice led by the Rev. Dr. Gregory Bryant from the Presbytery of Detroit and another on preaching the parables led by the Rev. Dr. Lucinda Issacs from the Presbytery of Cincinnati. In addition, they will participate in workshops on using the Book of Confessions and another on identifying and addressing congregational resistances. They will be well prepared for these workshops as they will spend this month and next exploring the intersection of preaching and theology in their cohort groups.

We will also be inviting our first alumni class to attend the conference, to participate in these new workshops, attend lectures from our keynote speaker, the Rev. Dr. Catherine Williams – Professor of Preaching at Lancaster Theological Seminary, along with some special alumni programming in which they will get to spend time with Rev. Dr. Willams and participate in a master preaching seminar.

We are also most excited to welcome a new group of CGPI participants to join our growing community of emerging preachers this June! They will participate in workshops that provide an overview of the Bible, and introduction to Reformed Theology, the basics of public speaking, storytelling, in addition to lectures from Rev. Dr. Williams.

We will be recruiting participants from all eleven of the Synod’s presbyteries – so expect to hear details about the program in presbytery meetings and other communications. If you or someone you know has a call to preach or has been asked to guest preach then this program is for you!
