About the event

How do we make decisions of conscience in complex times? The parallels between the civil rights movement and our current political and global climate are striking. During a school desegregation crisis in 1964, a civil rights icon, a famous Black nationalist and a Presbyterian minister crossed paths in Cleveland, with tragic consequences. Michele Minter shares the story of Rev. Bruce Klunder, one of only forty-one individuals listed as civil rights martyrs at the national Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama.

Michele Minter is vice provost for institutional equity and diversity at Princeton University. Originally from Cleveland, she is a trustee of the Princeton Theological Seminary, a graduate of Chicago Theological Seminary, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in New Jersey.
