Why should Christian preachers bother with preaching regularly from Old Testament texts when we have the wonderful words of Jesus and Paul in the New Testament? This workshop will lift up the unique and urgent resources and treasures of the Old Testament that need to be heard in congregations today in the 21st century alongside the New Testament witness. Recognizing that there may be obstacles, we will outline some practical strategies for recovering valuable Old Testament texts and themes for Christian

preaching.

Dennis Olson is the Charles Haley Professor of Old Testament Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey.  His scholarly focus is on Old Testament narratives and theology with particular emphasis on the Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy) as well as the use of Scripture in the practice of ministry. He is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and served for four years as a congregational pastor.
