The term "Christian Nationalism" has come into public awareness in the past few years. Some see it as an empty buzzword employed to accuse Christian conservatives of political or theological wrongdoing. For others, it sounds like a simple affirmation that Christians want to see a country that reflects biblical values. Some embrace the term; others reject it. But, what is Christian nationalism really? And why is it problematic for Christian mission and witness?
In this workshop, Dr. Miranda Zapor Cruz will walk us through three different types of Christian nationalism that are influential in the United States today. Ethno-religious nationalism, Christian restorationism, and Seven Mountains dominionism each represent different streams of thought with distinct theological and historical origins, but they flow together to create the murky waters of Christian nationalism.
