MUSA Quotes

“The mutual sharing of love for someone from another country has to be the most valuable aspect of our experience. Irina expressed to our entire congregation her surprise at the love we have for everyone and the fact that we display it openly. She liked that aspect of American church people and wishes that it could be so in Russia.” Doug and Cathie Case, First Presbyterian, Blissfield, Michigan

WHAT WOULD A “REVERSE” MISSION TRIP LOOK LIKE FOR YOUR CONGREGATION?

                MISSION TO THE USA

September 26 – November 1, 2012

Imagine a missionary from another part of the world becoming an adjunct member of your church staff for five weeks.    Everyone in your congregation would have the opportunity to:

  • learn about another part of the world and the joys and challenges facing Christians there,
  • gain a fresh perspective on the Gospel of Jesus Christ,
  • acquire a deeper understanding of the global nature of Christ’s church, and
  • be challenged to greater faithfulness.

In the fall of 2012 the Synod of the Covenant is inviting church leaders from China, Taiwan, Madagascar, and Mexico to spend five (5) weeks as adjunct staff members of particular congregations.   As participants in the Mission to the U.S.A. Program, these ecumenical partners will preach, teach and become a part of a host congregation, celebrating our oneness in Christ as they share their stories of faith and teach us about life in their home countries and the ongoing issues there.

Mission partners are not just guests or visitors. They come here as missionaries to us.  In our abundance, we usually think about what we have to give to others.  Mission to the U.S.A. gives us an opportunity to think about what riches we might receive from those whose faith may have been shaped by their culture or by persecution, poverty, or politics.

Program dates are September 26 to November 1, 2012.  Applications are due April 1, 2012.

Any church in the synod is welcome to apply.
